This workshop aims to identify major challenges and strategies associated with the management of e-waste in African countries. The focus will be on facilitating discussion among workshop participants from various African countries and Europe to enable analysis of existing experiences and identification of suitable approaches to deal with challenges, including exploring the potential of local, regional and international solutions.

The WEEE technical session and workshop is funded by the project "e-waste management in Africa" which was launched by Hewlett Packard, the Global Digital Solidarity Fund (DSF) and Empa in 2007 with baseline studies in Kenya, Morocco and Senegal and an e-waste recycling pilot in Cape Town, South Africa. It is supported by StEP "Solving the e-Waste Problem". the e-Waste Association of South Africa (eWASA), the Swiss States Secretariat of Economic Affairs (SECO) and Empa which are partnering in the "Knowledge Partnerships in e-Waste Recycling" programme since 2003.
