Case Study Colombia
The case study Colombia was launched in January 2007. First efforts concentrated on data gathering about existing practices and recycling processes in Colombia's two mayor cities Bogota and Medellin and on the identification and motivation of the most important stakeholders of the sector.
These were found both in the public and private sector. Since then EMPA and the Cleaner Production Centre (CNPMLTA) in Medellin have been working with the Ministry of Environment (MAVDT) and the Colombian Chamber of Information Technologies and Telecomunications (CCIT) to promote and facilitate the establishment of a sustainable e-Waste management system in Colombia.
The most important milestones of the ongoing casy study are:
- The first Colombian Forum about international and national experiences on e-waste management, 27th of April 2007 in Bogota.
- Expert meeting with representatives of the public and private sector, 13th of November 2007 in Bogota.
- e-Waste Assessment Colombia carried out by the University of the Andes, advised by EMPA and the Ministry of Environment, July 2007 to February 2008.
