AbstractOn a global scale, the strong increase in consumption of electric and electronic equipment (EEE) leads to growing volumes of e-waste. This trend is boosted by the shortening lifetimes of IT equipment due to its fast technological development, too. To tackle this waste stream, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and Hewlett-Packard (HP) launched into a Public-Private Partnership that aims for a sustainable e-waste management in selected African countries, amongst others Morocco. Within the scope of this PPP, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa) were engaged by HP to assess the current situation and the financial viability of e-waste recycling in Morocco.
